Making Do at The Old Lookout Gallery Broadstairs

Making Do will spend the next two weekends at The Old Lookout Gallery creating and producing a publication in collaboration with the community at Broadstairs.

Following from our latest issue, Dialogues form out of this world, we aim to further explore the limits of authorship (shared, open source) and the results of collective processes within creative production.

Making Do will relocate at The Old Lookout Gallery to produce a publication in collaboration with, the invited members of the community as well as passer bys and visitors to the gallery space.

We are inviting the community of Broadstairs to participate in the content and production of this publication: ideas on content, articles, photographs, personal and collective histories, news, illustrations as well as active production during the making i.e. editing, design, layout etc.

All the editorial processes and decisions will be constantly displayed in the gallery space. It will be an open office where visitors can come and have a chat, participate in group discussions, bring their stories and points of view.

This is an opportunity to expose the usually hidden processes of creating a publication while at the same time challenge them by opening them up to collaborations.

A library of independent publications as well as books on local history will be on display during the process.

Re-make the Making Do; Translate the Translation issue

Making Do workshop; 2nd year Graphic Design, UCA Epsom: The students created their own publications in response to the Translation issue; they reflected on the form and structure (the actual magazine, it’s paper, binding and layout) as well as the content (translation as a concept). PARK: bir ihtimal opens

Future Anecdotes participated in a public art project in one of the busiest parks in Istanbul. PARK opened on Sunday at the Niﬂantaﬂı Maçka Dimitrei Cantemir / Cumhuriyet Parkı, and it will be open until October 2010. You can read more on the project here

We designed the catalogue for this year’s Chelsea College of Art and Design’s MA Interim show, During five days, a different group of students curated a show by using the same content material. You can see the results here

Açık Şehir – Open City Istanbul is a series of three exhibitions that will take place at DEPO /Tutun Deposu between the 12 March – 9 May 2010. We designed the promotional material and consulted on the use of typography for the show. See the project here

Chelsea workshop and talk

We asked the students to respond to a list of instructions in order to produce a piece of work that reflects their individual practices.

Our workshop at the MA Graphic Design course, was followed by a talk at the Lecture theatre on our studio work and culture.

Making a publication: presentation and one-day workshop

A presentation of independent publications with an emphasis on our experiences of producing Making Do was followed by a workshop to groups of students. Each student was allocated a number and was asked to produce a piece of work in response while each group collaboratively and within certain specifications, produced a publication.
